Representing Arusha – known as ‘A City’ or Mwamba wa Kaskazini (Northern Rock) – this release is a tribute to the roots that have shaped his artistry. More than just a song, ‘A City’ is an ode to his hometown and the spirit of resilience that the streets of Arusha harbour.
In a career spanning almost two decades, Joh Makini has continued to set new standards. From the early success of ‘Chochote Popote’ in 2006, to co-founding the legendary hip-hop collective Weusi, to international collaborations with stars such as AKA, Davido and Sauti Sol, he remains a defining voice of conscious African rap.
Released on 27 August 2025, the album ‘A City’ combines the toughness of hip-hop with the warmth of the Afro sound, balancing hard-hitting bars with cultural pride. It is a soundtrack for dreamers, crooks and all those who carry their city in their hearts.
