Tanzanian hip-hop heavyweight Billnass – born William Nicholaus Lyimo – is back with a socially engaged anthem called ‘Oktoba Tunatiki’. Billnass, who is known for his profound lyrics and African-American rap style, cements his status as one of East Africa’s most respected rap icons.
‘Oktoba Tunatiki’ is more than just a song – it’s a movement. The track was released on 26 August 2025 and is directly linked to the general elections in Tanzania. Tapping into the theme of the ruling party CCM’s campaign under President Samia Hassan Suluhu, the anthem encourages political participation while capturing the energy of October’s nationwide momentum.
Billnass, who rose to fame with his first single ‘Raha’ in 2015, has always used his music as an expression of culture, resilience and the voice of the people. In 2022, he was named Best Male Hip-Hop Artist at the Tanzania Music Awards, and today he channels that same artistry into a song that combines activism with entertainment.
